Science Research Course Requirements

1. Looseleaf binder-1" rings

2. Internet access

3. Choose a researchable topic and collect
at least ten references. Six must be from scientific or scholarly journals. No encyclopedias, textbooks, unreliable websites, outdated or irrelevant references will be acceptable.

4. Each reference must be photocopied, summarized, and placed in your binder.

5. One or two of your journal articles will be presented to the class on Powerpoint. These must have a clear hypothesis, materials methods, data, statistical analysis and conclusions.


6. Term Paper
a) single spaced/ arial 12 / 6-10 pages/ MLA format
b) Appropriate topic sentence-5 points
c) Introduction- Why your research is important. The purpose of your research. How your research could be applied to everyday life. Your hypothesis or variables that will be studied 25 points
d) Review of Literature- Discuss the research that you have done on your topic. Include the applicable information from the articles that you have collected. 40 points
e) Extensions- Propose a realistic research project you could conduct related to your topic of interest. Consider that the proposed project might be done by you with the help of scientists and research institutions. 15 points
f) Bibliography- It must include at least 3 popular references, 3 scientific references, 2 email contacts. 15 points.


The students with the best papers and presentations (highest grades in the class) will submit an application to NYCEF in the Fall.
